PROJECTS:

Monthly Public Forums

Policy support for local governments
The Watershed Council is a community forum that helps to identify and clarify creek issues related to water quality, flooding, and habitat, often before these issues become serious problems. It evolved from the community-based Coordinated Resources & Management Planning (CRMP) process that began on San Francisquito Creek in 1993.

At its monthly meetings, the Watershed Council Steering Committee hosts presentations on issues related to watershed health. Some of the topics covered recently include the widening of Sand Hill Road, with emphasis on the care of San Francisquito Creek during construction; the New Year’s Eve storms; the Water Resources Protection Ordinance under development by the Santa Clara Valley Water District; the Acterra native plant nursery; and the San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority / U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Flood Damage Reduction and Ecosystem Restoration Project feasibility study.

The chief goal of these meetings is to provide an opportunity for dialogue among individuals, community organizations, local governments, and agency representatives to promote understanding and consensus on watershed issues.

Longtime Watershed Council participants and staff provide local agencies with data, historical information, technical expertise, and perspective on watershed concerns.

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month from 2:30 to 5pm at the Peninsula Conservation Center (3921 East Bayshore Road, Palo Alto) and are open to the public. For more information, please contact Pam Sturner.
